An evergreen shrub, herb with narrower leaves to the garden variety of Sage, more spear-like, that emits an aromatic scent from all over the plant - somewhat reminiscent of spike lavender, and otherwise known as Lavender Sage. The small shrub also has small light purple floret flowers. A valuable commodity for both medicinally and cosmetically.
The generic name of Sage comes from the Latin salvere, 'to save' or 'to heal'. It has been considered as a sacred herb dating back centuries, which was used in the form of herbal infusions, gargles, and poultices, particularly for mouth and throat infections and headaches. The Spanish Sage is closely related to Sage (Salvia officinalis), which has a long history in Western herbal medicine - that aided in the memory and concentration of the mind.
Traditionally used to treat rheumatism, digestive complaints, menstrual problems, infertility and nerves.
